Release: Alpha 30

A kind of small update this time, but not completely useless. But hey, it doesn't matter since you can skip it if you don't like it! :D

What's new
  • Added prefixes to item names when mods are assigned.
  • Inventory lists' columns' width are saved.

  1. Please fix the skill problem.

I need like 40+ skills point to make a full skill tree :( I'm level 60. Got 59 points to spend.

  2. I got all mine filled but, I didn't use this however.

If you need any help from me,
    add me on steam

  3. RiversideBR: Could you please e-mail me about this matter? Please tell me what the problem is as well, because I don't know about any problems. If you are level 60, you should be able to spend a maximum of 59 points. Thanks! :)

  4. Hi Steffen,

Thanks for this totally awesome editor.

Is there a way you could add a back button or similar to allow you to go back to the tab when the program first starts (Characters & Profiles)?

I know you can use File->Load, but it's not as good.

    Thanks from Australia.

  5. Sorry, forgot to add, why are some items listed more than once in the "Add Item - Your Inventory" in the Inventory tab?

  6. That's because they are not the exact same items, but they have the same name (but probably different prefix, which I haven't yet been able to implement). If you view the names by their technical name (Preferences), you may be able to tell the difference.

  7. Ah, thanks for both answers.

Keep up the good work, Steffen, you have a legion of fans.

  9. so its normal to dont have all skills unlocked?

  10. That's right. You usually have to specialize your character in such games (meaning you usually can't max out everything). :)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well that's not true lol. I know a way to max out all your skills, plus boost health, and more stamina.

Its somewhat easy for some if you have the right tools...

  12. Are we talking about tools that actually change the game's data files? Then it would be like a 3rd party mod, and that should of course work. :) How about sharing the right tools you speak of? :D

  13. lol ok...

All you need is Notpad++ and WinRAR

If you really want to know where to put the "edited files", its not in steam where you put them.

Go to hit start, documents, dead island, out folder... once you are there make a folder called... Data as I put down, go in it and make another folder called... Skills as I put it down.

Now this where the tools come into play...

Go to steam, bla bla bla till you get to dead island in steamapps and common folders..

now once you have WinRAR installed.. open the game "Dead Island" folder in steam, then DI folder... Look for Data0,Data1,Data2, and Data3
    .PAK files..

Now, Right click Data0.PAK file and go to properties, and you see where it says
"Opens with" (Whatever) and the Change button..
You want it to open it with WinRAR archiver..

If you did that right, press apply and open Data0.pak file...

    *****NOTE*****
DO NOT EDIT ANYTHING IN ".PAK" FILES EVER, THE GAME WILL CRASH!!

Once you open Data0 File find a folder called "Skills"...

Click and Hold the skills folder to your desktop...

Now... In that folder has files like...xian_skills/levels.xml and others like it...

Whatever one you like to "edit" is the ones you want in the "NEW" skills folder in the Dead Island Documents...

Now here is where Notpad++ comes in...

    ***NOTE***
NOTPAD++ IS THE BEST TEXT READER ON THE PLANET THAT YOU CAN READ!!

    ***Now the basics***
OK, now... Lets say your character is xian (the asian chick)... Open up xian_levels.xml with notpad++...

    *****NOTE*****
Data3.pak is the Ver.1.3.0, so you need to open that file if you want it to read a lvl 60 instead of lvl 50... Fine skills folder open it and get the W/E_levels.xml from there and put it in the "NEW" skills folder you made...

    It would look like this:

    This is the fun part...

    You see this?:

Change the "1" into "3" (No more than that).
InventorySize??? make the 12 into w/e number you want lol

    *****NOTE*****
YOUR HEALTH STOPS AT LEVEL 20
    go down where it says:

THATS THE ONE TO CHANGE YOUR HEALTH BAR TO WHATEVER, MINE IS SET TO 900...

OK... for your skill points, math comes to play..

    Down to lvl 60.

Add w/e you need to "fill" up all skills and add it to w/e number that shows the v="???"/> is at..
Now click file on the top and SAVE IT!!
PLAY IT, LOVE IT, AND ENJOY IT!!
    THATS THE BASICS!!!

Now the advance is for another day but if you want to try things and explore on your own...

    Inventory_Gen.scr
    Inventory_Special.scr
    default_levels.xml
    W/E_skills.xml

Thees files you can play with however, the .scr files goes in the data folder you made.
the default_levels.xml/W/E_skills.xml goes in the skills folder you have made...

Thats all for today, more tomorrow...

  15. Thank you very much for spending time on your explanation. :)

I also use Notepad++, but it sometimes makes me annoyed! :)

I've looked into all of those files before and it's definitely modifying the game's internal files (which is why I didn't explain it to RiversideBR). :)

When I asked if you could share the tools you mentioned, I was thinking more about specialized tools, or something that would make it possible without changing the game's internals. :)

I appreciate that you put efforts into your explanations and that you made efforts to make it easy for beginners, and I think you could post it and your potential advanced one, as tutorials on a forum or something (if they don't exist already). :)

    I would however..
The reason I decided to share on here, and not "other" forums because well, there are some who can take the fun out online.. for an example..

There are two assholes online joining other people's game, and grenade them and make them lose money that they need for modding weapons or repairing them. If you play on PC there names are: Sniper Turtle and DarkNova.
Im sure there are others like them, but if you come by them, lol use the M72 on them...
Im sure they leave, once they do you can banned them on steam, or kick them...
